A Cooler, Brighter, Better Outdoor Space in Eatons Hill

Client Success Story: Sue Insulated Gable Roof Patio Customer

Location: Eatons Hill, Moreton Bay

Project: Carport & Insulated gable roof patio with a wrap-around layout

Goal: Deliver a wrap-around, insulated patio and carport designed for superior shade, airflow, and water control

Sue’s original patio in Eatons Hill had reached the point where it was no longer usable. The polycarbonate roof was deteriorating, the area was trapping heat and the low roofline blocked the breezes that normally move through homes in the Moreton Bay Region. She wanted a cooler and more practical outdoor space that would also work with the style of her brick home.

After seeing ideas on the Lifestyle Patios website, Sue reached out for a complete redesign that would suit the climate and improve everyday comfort.

What the Client Needed

Sue’s priorities were consistent with what many Queensland homeowners look for when upgrading.

  • A gable roof to improve airflow.

  • Insulation to reduce heat and keep the area comfortable.

  • A visual design she could understand upfront.

  • A carport solution that kept her existing brick piers.

  • A long-term fix for gutter overflow.

  • A structure that tied in with the appearance of the home.

Our Solution

We designed an insulated gable roof patio with a wrap-around layout to maximise shade and airflow. We recommended a Fly-Up and Box Gutter solution, for both the patio and the carport. This manages larger volumes of water and prevents overflow during heavy rain. Detailed drawings prepared by Steve helped Sue clearly understand the final look before work began.

Key features delivered

  • Insulated roofing for cooler year-round use.

  • A gable roof shape to draw breezes through the outdoor area.

  • Box Gutter and Fly-Up Solutions positioned to manage water flow.

  • Structural steel posts sized to match the scale of the home.

  • Polycarbonate sections placed to maintain natural interior light.

  • A redesigned carport with the same Fly-Up system for reliable drainage.

  • All upgrades completed while keeping the home’s original brick piers.

The Build

The original patio had been in place for more than 30 years. One of the posts collapsed during removal, confirming it was time to replace it. Once dismantled, the new patio and carport were installed over a couple of weeks. Pre-cut materials kept the process efficient and an additional support post was added during installation for improved long-term strength.

The Results

A noticeably cooler outdoor space

The insulated gable roof changed how the area feels day to day. The breezes now move freely underneath and the shaded, insulated roofing has reduced the heat that enters the home.

“It is much cooler now and that carries into the house.”

This resulted in far less reliance on air conditioning.

A reliable fix for rain overflow

Before upgrading, heavy rain caused water to spill through the old guttering and into the carport.
The new Fly-Up Box Gutter system fixed the issue immediately.

“We used to get drips every time it rained. Now we do not get anything.”

This is a common problem in the Moreton Bay Region where two rooflines often feed into narrow gutters. The Fly-Up Solution provides a practical long-term fix.

A structure that suits the home

The patio and carport now look like they were part of the original home. The higher roofline, larger posts and matching materials give the space a stronger and more balanced look.

The improvement was noticeable to others as well. Neighbours stopped by to look at the finished result and asked who completed the work, which is always a strong indicator of genuine satisfaction.

Sue’s positive experience led to a second project. Her original two car carport was upgraded to a more functional design that fits three cars at a pinch. It was built with pillars that match the home so the frontage feels consistent and intentional.

"We are really happy with how it all turned out. It is much cooler, we get the breezes back and we hardly use the air conditioning now. The drawings made it easy to see what we were getting and the whole process went smoothly. The carport has been great too and we would definitely get Lifestyle Patios back again."
