Do I need stairs if I have a raised patio or deck?

If your outdoor area sits more than one metre above ground level, you’ll need a safe and compliant way to access it. Stairs are the most common solution and are custom designed to suit the height, slope and layout of your space.

What materials do you use for stairs?

We use galvanised steel stair stringers for strength and long-term durability. Treads are P4-rated hardwood timber for slip resistance and compliance. A range of widths is available to suit your space and how you plan to use it.

Can the stairs match my deck or balustrade?

Yes. We align tread finishes, balustrade styles and colours to keep everything looking cohesive and well integrated with your main structure.

What if my block is sloped or uneven?

We design around it. Our stairs can include landings, turns or staggered runs to suit difficult site levels. Every build is planned to feel natural, comfortable and compliant. Tricky sites don’t bother us, we actually enjoy the challenge.

Can you build stairs to access a second storey?

Yes. We design, engineer and build external stairs to second-storey decks and entries across Brisbane, Redlands, Logan and Ipswich. All work is completed by QBCC-licensed builders (Queensland Building and Construction Commission — QLD’s building authority) and approved by a private certifier or council as required.

Additional Considerations

The stairwell on a deck should be thoughtfully designed so that all the stair rises and all the tread depths are equal. If the bottom or top step is noticeably different in height or length from the other stairs, it will be considered a tripping hazard. With most elevated constructions, they need to comply with industry standards which should be considered before commencing a project.

Our purlin frames are made of galvanised steel for longevity and durability. The joists & bearers have superior strength and larger spans, which allows for a flexible design and efficient & safe construction. Using a galvanised steel frame means there is no rot or warp as occurs in timber frames.

Enclosed Beam System

Our Enclosed Beam system has all the benefits of a Purlin Frame system but you can’t see any fixings, which gives a better overall appearance and also gives you the option of larger spans.

Premium Hardwoods

Hardwood is a natural decking product that is strong, durable and aesthetically pleasing. One of the major benefits of using hardwood is that wear and tear is easily treated, as your deck can be sanded and re-stained to protect & preserve it. We offer you a choice of hardwood timbers, including Kwila/ Merbau, Jarrah, Blackbutt, Spotted Gum and Ironbark.

Composite (Eco) Boards

Pre-finished, colour-fast decking that looks like timber but never needs oiling; hidden Kleva Klip fixings keep lines crisp.

Fibre-Cement Sheeting
