Client Success Story: Steven, Patio & Carport Customer
Location: New Beith, Logan
Scope: Insulated patio and custom carport
Goal: Add covered space for vehicles while preserving access and flow
Steven’s patio was built by Lifestyle Patios and quickly became one of the most used areas of his home, providing the cool, shaded outdoor space he had hoped for. When his family needed more parking, he didn’t shop around. He came straight back.
“Anything that Lifestyle Patios can do, one hundred percent. Don’t waste your time shopping around.”
The Challenge
Steven already had a garage, but with two teenagers, four cars and a motorbike, it was no longer enough. He needed extra covered parking that would protect the cars from the sun and storms, but still keep the driveway clear for daily use.
The problem was positioning. A standard carport placed directly in front of the garage would create a bottleneck, blocking access and making it difficult to get cars in and out. Steven needed a solution that would provide the extra parking without compromising the functionality of his existing garage.
He also works in construction, so he had a clear vision and knew what to look for. He didn’t want a basic solution that would look like an afterthought. He wanted something that would look good, function well and add value to his property.

The Lifestyle Patios Solution

Steven wanted the new carport positioned beside the garage, not directly in front. That meant careful planning to allow enough space for vehicles to turn in without hitting the posts. Rick worked with Steven on-site to find the right placement and span, based on the shape of the driveway and how the cars would actually enter and exit.
An insulated roof was the clear choice. These panels provide longer spans without extra beams, which keeps the design clean and open. They stay cooler, don’t sweat, and allow for built-in lighting. They also offer more colour options, which helped match the look of the existing home and patio.
Key design decisions included:
- A side-offset carport layout that kept the driveway clear for garage access
- Strategic post placement designed around actual vehicle movement patterns
- An insulated roof for superior heat protection, better spans and a tidier finish
- A one metre setback from the boundary to meet fire rating requirements (essential for structures close to property lines)
- A flyover section – an extended roof area that connects the garage and carport, providing dry, covered access between the two structures
“The team told me what I could do and what I couldn’t. It clicked straight away. They were helpful, upfront and easy to work with.”
The Result
The new carport fits perfectly beside the home and feels like part of the original design. There is enough room for extra vehicles, the driveway remains fully accessible, and the whole area stays cooler and cleaner. The flyover section means Steven can move between his garage and carport without getting wet, even during heavy Queensland downpours.
Steven was already happy with his original patio, so it was an easy decision to come back. Once again, Lifestyle Patios delivered exactly what he needed.
“I basically did nothing. Once it was done, no mess. I couldn’t fault a thing.”

For Future Customers
This project demonstrates why thoughtful design matters, especially when working around existing structures. If you are planning a carport or covered outdoor area, here are key considerations:
- Will the layout still allow full access to your garage or main entry?
- Have vehicle turning paths and post placement been carefully planned around how you actually use the space?
- Is the roof material suited to Queensland’s climate and your maintenance preferences?
- Does the design complement your home or feel like a bolt-on addition?
- Can the team explain council requirements, boundary setbacks and fire rating rules?
- Will the structure add genuine value to your property?
Steven’s experience shows the value of working with a team that understands both the technical requirements and the practical realities of family life. The right solution doesn’t just provide shelter – it improves how your whole property functions.
Steven trusted Lifestyle Patios to get the job done right. First for his patio. Then for his carport. And most recently, he brought the team back again for a third project on his investment property. That one’s a story for another day.
